Itinerary *

Monday, Sept. 8

Meet at 2pm in Beaune at the historic and elegant 4-star Hôtel Le Cep, conveniently located in heart of the historic city of Beaune. Your first tasting this afternoon will be at one of the Côte d’Or’s best négociants, located right in Beaune: Bouchard Père et Fils. You’ll visit their ancient cellars in the 15th century Chateau de Beaune (not open to the general public), and enjoy a tasting featuring some of the region’s most prestigious appellations. Afterward, Colette will take you on a guided tour of the Hospices de Beaune (Hôtel Dieu), noted for its amazing Burgundian Renaissance architecture and impressive art collection. Take some time to rest and relax before your welcome dinner at nearby Le Bénaton restaurant, which will include an orientation and a short introduction to wine tasting techniques to give everyone a common tasting language for the tour.

Tuesday, Sept. 9

Your exploration of Burgundy continues in the place where winemaking first began in this region: the historic Clos de Vougeot. This beautiful 13th century monastery is now owned by the Confrérie du Tastevin, the famous wine brotherhood of Burgundy. During a fascinating guided tour of the Clos, learn how wine was made in the Middle Ages and see their massive 13th century wine presses that still work to this day! Afterward, you’ll taste Grand Cru wine at one of the best producers of appellation Clos de Vougeot (the vineyard that surrounds the monastery), Domaine de la Tour. Lunch will be at the charming country inn, Castel de Très Girard. This afternoon includes tastings at two of the star producers of the Côtes de Nuits (we usually taste at Rebourseau, Confuron-Contetidot, Domaine des Lambrays, Daniel Rion, among others).Take the evening to enjoy the charming town of Beaune and discover its great restaurants, with our suggestions.

Wednesday, Sept. 10

Your destination today is the Côtes de Beaune, best known for some of France’s greatest white wines like Meursault and Montrachet, but also home to elegant reds in Pommard and Volnay. You’ll enjoy tastings here at two top producers (Genot Boulanger, Bernard Morey, Etienne Sauzet, and Marc Colin are among those we often visit). Another treat today: a fun wine tasting lunch at the excellent négociant Olivier Leflaive, with 14 great wines to taste! Dinner tonight will be at the lovely and highly-rated restaurant l’Oiseau des Vignes, right next to your hotel.

Thursday, Sept. 11

Back to the Côte de Nuits today, for tours and tastings at great producers in famous appellations like Chambolle Musigny, Nuits Saint Georges or Vougeot, followed by a gastronomic lunch at restaurant Les Gourmets in Marsannay. You’ll also have the opportunity today to visit the famous Grand Cru vineyards of Vosne Romanée including Romanée Conti and La Tache, a must-see on any trip to the Côte d’Or. Your farewell dinner tonight is at Beaune’s best restaurant, Michelin 1-star-rated Jardins des Remparts, with very special wines.

Friday, Sept. 12

Your program ends after breakfast today.
